Who is Yellow Wheel?
From 2012, Lucy Guerin Inc has housed the new Victorian youth dance company Yellow Wheel, supporting the group with studio space for classes, workshops and office space for administration while allowing them to maintain an independent and autonomous company structure. Lucy Guerin Inc’s Executive Producer also provides mentoring for founding of the company.
Yellow Wheel was founded in 2012 by Adam Wheeler and Jessie Oldfield, with a vision to create a space for Victorian youth to practice contemporary dance.
Now with Adam Wheeler (Artistic Director) and Joshua Lowe (Producer) at the helm, Yellow Wheel is a collection of young dancers, all of which are determined to pursue a career in dance. The age range is from 12-26 years and these young dancers come from a vast range of schools, universities and institutions all with the common goal of being part of a collaborative, creative process with an emphasis on producing high grade dance works.
Yellow Wheel has made two major works, Dance Robot Dance and FX and has partnered with Dance House/Ben Speth with Wetube LIVE (Dance Massive), Melbourne Now/Antony Hamilton with Little Makers, Ausdance Victoria in I Could Have Danced All Night (White Night Festival) and fLing Physical Theatre to make Socialsize ME.
Throughout the year young people can connect with Yellow Wheel in a number of ways such as contemporary dance only Summer and Winter schools, weekly techniques classes, Showroom choreographic season and It’s A Dance Project (make a show in a day).
Yellow Wheel not only offers opportunities for young people to dance and perform but there are also programs set up such as dancer Internships, producing Internships and Artistic Associate positions. Yellow Wheel recognises that a career in dance can take on many different facets and will endeavour to support young Victorians in whatever direction they take.
