STUDIO RESIDENT ANTONY HAMILTON

Antony Hamilton is the current Resident in our Studio, rehearsing for the next three weeks in the lead up to the premiere of his newest work Black Project 1 at Arts House this March.

Black Project 1 is part of a catalytic double bill with choreographer/performer Melanie Lane, in which the symbiotic elements of body, light, objects and sound occupy time and space to explode any perception of a static universe.

Hamilton’s Black Project 1 meditates on the synthesis between the gravity-bound body and its connection to the forces and minerals of the earth. Two beings relentlessly traverse a panoramic, linear terrain, leaving artefacts of human intervention in their wake as they go forth into solitude and emptiness.

Lane’s Tilted Fawn creates an intimate, intense, audio-sensitive universe where our urge to seek transformation through advanced technologies is brought into question. This is a world of sensory delight, in which an orchestra of lo-fi sonic objects propels a lone dancer through landscapes that are by turns luscious, melancholic, stark and utopian.

Dates: Wednesday 7 – Sunday 11 March

HOME ART IN THE SUSTAINABLE LIVING FESTIVAL

In December 2011 across North Melbourne and West Melbourne an international art project ( A Climate Commission) was commissioned by TippingPoint Australia and the City of Melbourne - a collaboration between choreographer Lucy Guerin and three households who created new dance works performed by them in their own homes.

By being local in its creation and presentation and with support from the City of Melbourne's sustainability team to measure and reduce the emissions of some of the participants houses and work places, the project models a new way of making low carbon art that offers a chance for neighbours to see each other in a new light.

Come along to the premier free screening of Home Art - a short documentary - at Federation Square Big Screen as part of the Sustainable Living Festival at 9pm on Saturday 18 February.

ANNOUNCING 2012 STUDIO RESIDENCIES

Congratulations to the following 2012 successful Studio Residencies at Lucy Guerin Inc:

Antony Hamilton with Melanie Lane
Shian Law
Janine Proost
Luke George
Lina Limosani

Here's a bit about what they are up to:

Antony Hamilton with Melanie Lane

Over February & March Antony will be undertaking the final rehearsal/creative development for the premiere of his new work Black Project 1, at Arts House as part of the double bill Clouds Above Berlin alongside Melanie Lane's Tilted Fawn
Performance dates: 7 - 11 March

Visit the Arts House website for more information: http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/ArtsHouse/Program/Pages/CloudsAboveBerlin.aspx

Shian Law

Shian will be working towards Personal Mythology, a series of abstracted choreographic performances that simulate the form of rituals such as processions, ceremonies, and rites without prescribing a symbolic function and meaning. Shian will be rehearsing in our Studio over April & May in preparation for a presentation in the 2012 Next Wave Festival. During this time he will be mentored by Jo Lloyd, under the JUMP mentorship program. Shian was recently named 'Dancer to Watch' by Chris Boyd in Dance Australia.

Janine Proost

Janine presented the very first draft of this project at First Run late 2011. In May she will continue to develop the work, this time inviting other dance artists to join the process, experimenting with transitioning from solo-research to group research. Janine is interested in investigating a series of questions about what kind of performance structure resonates most with the times we live in.

Luke George

The creation of a new solo work Not About Face is Luke's focus for his Residency in May/June. He will be exploring presence, energy, time and consciousness through the intersections and diversions between: performance; body; science; and the supernatural.

Lina Limosani

In late 2012 Lina will be working on the next phase of her solo dance theatre work Borderline. Borderline was originally derived from an Art Residency at Ballet Teatro; Porto, Portugal in June 2011. Lina plans to investigate the movement research inspired by the work of Scottish physical theatre director Al Seed.

We look forward to having these artists in our space and seeing their work develop further.

The 2012 Studio Residencies was a very competitive round. We received 24 really interesting applications, indicating an incredible standard of work in Melbourne and a crucial demand for space.

2013 Studio Residency applications will open in the second half of 2012. Keep up to date on the latest information by visiting the Studio Residency page of our website:
