Shio Otani is a Melbourne-based costume designer. A self-confessed crafter, she is interested in all things handmade and works in diverse platforms such as theatre, dance, jewellery design and textiles.

Shio has designed costumes for award-winning theatre companies, Back to Back Theatre (Ganesh vs The Third Reich, Food Court, Small Metal Object, Soft), Lucy Guerin Inc (Weather), Chunky Move (247 Days), as well as for artists including Jo Lloyd (Public Unpublic, High Maintenance, Hospitals and Airports), Antony Hamilton (Forces x Antony Hamilton), David Rosetzky (Untouchable, Hothouse, Custom Made) Rhian Hinkley (Boz’n’Hok vs Theatre of Speed, Porn Star, Face of the West) and Encyclopedia of Animals (Urchin).

Shio graduated from Victorian College of the Arts with a BA in Dance and studied fashion studies at Box Hill Institute of TAFE. She also graduated from the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE with Advanced Diploma in Jewellery Design.
